THE AMERICAN UTILITY BOOK
Book Design, Typography
For this project, I created an artist's book inspired by the work of Andrew’s costume leather, a leather artist who specializes in creating cases for pistols. The book is divided into chapters, each of which focuses on a different stage of Andrew's creative process.
As I delved deeper into the world of leatherwork, I began to question the morality of creating something that is ultimately meant to conceal a weapon designed for killing. Through the book, I explore this moral dilemma and challenge readers to consider the implications of creating beautiful objects that serve such a dark purpose.
The book itself is a work of art, with each page featuring intricate illustrations and typography that reflect the aesthetic of Andrew's work. By examining his creative process and the ethical questions it raises, I hope to inspire readers to reflect on their own creative endeavors and the impact they have on the world around them.
